When perfumer’s begin to compose a new fragrance, many imagine creating the ultimate flower bouquet. They dream the perfect blooms and greens that will blend seamlessly into the most magical olfactory creation. They will often begin with roses, peonies, jasmine and lilies – then adding galbanum, lily-of-the-valley, osmanthus and iris. You can almost see them hand-picking the flowers in an elaborate garden.

One of the joys of social media ti scrolling through the Instagram pages of top perfumers. There, you get a sense of how much these artists love and respect flowers.

And Nathalie Lorson, one of our very favourite perfumers, takes photos of the blooms and greenery that inspire her.

What all three have in common, is a love of cut flowers. We have no doubt they would love Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden coffee table book by floral farmer Erin Benzakein. She lives in Washington’s lush Skagit Valley and shares her passion for cut flowers in this beautiful book organized by season. It’s equal parts instruction and inspiration. You can almost smell the aroma from the flowers in her garden.

“I’ve been an avid fan of Erin’s beautiful photos of her flower farm on Instagram for years. Now, seeing her work preserved for posterity in a book is pure magic,” says Stephen Orr, editor in chief, Better Homes and Gardens.

“One of the leading voices in the farmer-florist movement, Erin is a tireless advocate for locally-grown flowers. Here she has put together an indispensable four-season growing guide that will inspire you to sow your own cutting garden – whether you plant one row or hundreds,” adds Melissa Ozawa, garden and features editor, Martha Stewart Living.
