Roman luxury brand Bvlgari has just unveiled one of the most interesting men’s scents of 2022. It’s called Orom and it belongs to the ultra-prestige men’s collection Le Gemme. It’s a true wonder.

What’s special about this collection is the world’s top perfumers are given cart blanche to create works of olfactory art using the finest ingredient around the globe. Money is no object when selecting notes and ingredients. The resulting creations smell unlike anything else on the market. This is a collection for someone with discerning taste who appreciates the finest quality in life.

Master perfumer Sophie Labbé is the mastermind behind Orom. The Bvlgari executives approached her with a single direction: create a fragrance that reflects the labradorite gemstone. This is a precious stone with vibrant blue and green veins that literally glows when polished to a high shine in jewellery. Orom means ‘peacock’ in the Malagasy culture and is said to evoke the spirit of self-confidence. It embodies a sense of magic.

Sophie began her composition with the idea of creating a modern vanilla-themed scent for him that is rich, balsamic, woody and spicy. Premium vanilla from Madagascar is actually the second most expensive ingredient worldwide. The approached the note as a ‘gemstone of nature’. “I describe it as having a sensual olfactive signature that is both masculine and feminine,” she says. The perfumer describes the finished scent as a woody-oud-vanillic.

Wait until you hear the ingredients. The eau de parfum opens with vanilla bourbon planifolia with Virginia cedarwood essence upcycled. This blends with benzoin siam resinoid (that smells like a dry vanilla note) and blond suede accord. Soon, the drydown emerges of Oud Assaft Essence and Australian sandalwood. The woods perfectly balance the vanilla notes.
