Bvlgari’s exquisite Le Gemme Azaran for him

One of the most fascinating fragrance collections is Bvlgari’s ultra-prestige Le Gemme. It’s a carefully curated selection of luxury fragrances for men and women with the rarest and highest quality ingredients available in the world. What makes this collection unique is each fragrance is inspired by a semi-precious stone found along the gemstone trail that winds its way though Asia, India and the Middle East. The Roman jeweller handpicks a rare stone then asks one or two of the world’s top perfumers to translate it into a fragrance.

Most fragrance houses present perfumers with a very detailed and strict brief within which to work. The marketing department outlines the target audience, the theme, the ad concept and the budget for the new scent. But Le Gemme is different. There is no budget. The perfumers are free to source the most expensive ingredients around the globe. They have total creative freedom for the composition.

This month, Bvlgari unveils the next chapter in the Le Gemme library – the one for men. Introducing Azaran, which translates to “like fire”. The fragrance is inspired by red aventurine from Urals.

Master perfumer, Jacques Cavalier, taps the ultra-expensive red saffron as the key note. He pairs it with red cedar to create a profoundly woody-leather scent for him.

“Saffron is the most precious spice in the world,” he explains. “Azaran is inspired by this fantastic ingredient – multifaceted, fresh, spicy, warm and leathery. The intense red colour of the bottle was the starting point of the creation, blending saffron with bergamot and red cedar wood. It created a very sophisticated and powerful perfume with a fantastic woody-leather signature in the dry down.”

The exquisite packaging plays tribute to the red and blue aventurine. The box depicts the veins of the precious stone found deep within the earth. And the sleek red bottle is the exact shade of the rarest red aventurine.
