DKNY’s Be Delicious turns 18. Here’s why we love it today.
When New York fashion designer Donna Karan unveiled her signature DKNY Be Delicious fragrance 18 years ago, the bottle design caused a sensation. Here was an apple-shaped flacon that represented the spirit of New York City, ‘The Big Apple’. The vibrant green juice was an unexpected choice – most thought Karan would insist on red. But it turned out to be a brilliant marketing decision as the green stood out on counters and in store displays. The tart green apple note in the scent gave this fruity-floral scent for her an uplifting and fresh character.
Perfumer Maurice Roucel is the brainchild behind Be Delicious and the composition stands up to this day. In fact, we love it more today than when it first launched and that is saying something.
Roucel skillfully balances mild and tart notes with green apple, cucumber, grapefruit and magnolia paired with lily-of-the-valley, tuberose, violet and rose.
Soft woody notes of sandalwood and warm amber balance the scent perfectly. It has a bright and energetic quality without being too overbearing. What’s remarkable about Be Delicious is how Roucel is able to have all these ingredients work so harmoniously.
Happy 18th anniversary, Be Delicious. We’re betting you’ll be around for another 18!
