Five Iconic Fragrances To Try

Five Iconic Fragrances to Try

We’re celebrating iconic fragrances this month. These are incredibly beautiful scents that have stood the test of time. So what exactly is an iconic fragrance? To start, it is a men’s or women’s scent that has been a bestseller for more than ten years. And not only does it need to be a bestseller, but it needs to be a global success. It must appeal to a wide range of ages, styles, ethnic backgrounds and tastes. The eau de parfum or eau de toilette must demonstrate an exceptional skill by the perfumer with premium ingredients and surprising notes. It must be long-lasting and still feel contemporary and current. In effect, it needs to be a rare gem.

Lanvin Eclat d’Arpege

Let’s start with Lanvin’s Eclat d’Arpege. Launched in 2010, this green-floral fragrance for her has a fiercely loyal following around the world. The scent is built around a unique green lilac note that is wrapped in peach blossom, petit grain and Chinese Osmanthus. Fragrant wisteria and red peony add character while soothing green tea keeps the floral notes from becoming too assertive. The blend is perfectly balanced with warm amber musk and cedar for longevity. The fragrance is the brainchild of perfumer Karine Dubreuille. With almost no brand advertising, this scent has spread around the world solely via word-of-mouth. #scentlodge

Atkinsons’ Oud Save The Queen

This is a special one to share. Think of it as a modern classic with a nod to 1799. Atkinsons’ Oud Save The Queen is an exceptionally beautiful amber-floral scent for her created by perfumer Francis Deleamont. He skillfully blends Earl Grey tea and fresh bergamot with orange blossom and jasmine blooms. Rich oud and guaiac wood mix with sweet tonka bean creating a modern classic British scent. Truly remarkable. #scentlodge

Van Cleef & Arpels Amber Imperial

Amber Imperial is a fragrance you’ll find on the dressing tables of some of the most stylish women in Paris including fashion editors, stylists and models. Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire Ambre Imperial is a spicy-oriental fragrance for him or her. Perfumer Quentin Bisch balances notes of amber, bergamot, pink pepper with smooth woods. The addition of sweet tonka bean and vanilla gives it a modern attitude.

Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar

Roman jewellery brand Bvlgari is best known for its extravagant necklaces and bracelets crafted with rare colourful gemstones. Elizabeth Taylor was a huge fan of the brand. You may not know that Bvlgari has an ultra-premium men’s fragrance collection called Le Gemme with very special scents inspired by precious and semi-precious gemstones. The world’s top perfumers are shown a specific stone and asked to compose a scent that evokes the personality and character of the stone. They are instructed to use the finest ingredients in the world.

The highlight of the collection is a modern classic. Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar is a fresh citrus-woody fragrance for him that opens with a burst of refreshing grapefruit. You soon smell the smooth, precious woods and a hint of ginger. It’s a global sensation. #scentlodge

Montblanc Explorer Eau de Parfum

When it comes to iconic men’s fragrances, Montblanc Explorer is a modern classic. It is a bestseller around the world appealing to men of all ages and styles. What’s interesting about the creation is that a trio of top perfumers collaborated sourcing ingredients from South Africa, Haiti, Italy, Germany and Indonesia. The concept was to create a scent that celebrated the desire to explore the globe and experience adventures. Jordi Fernandez, Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux, all award-winning artists, composed a woody-aromatic eau de parfum layering notes of bergamot, pink pepper, French sage, vetiver, patchouli, cocoa and akigalawood. There is even a hint of leather. It’s fresh, masculine and long-lasting.

All of the above fragrances are available in Canada on scentlodge.com

My favorite is Bvlgari’s Le Gemme Tygar which for me is a new fragrance. The iconic Lanvin’s Arpege in a black flacon was and will always be a classic!
