Here’s a global trend that we are particularly excited about: fragrance log books. These journals allow you to record perfume profiles, impressions, aroma notes, performance and other details. Most are set up with pages set up with spaces for you to record not only brand, release date, and price – but also format, concentration and fragrance family. You can even note when you open a new scent so you’ll know when to replace it.

In the past, many fragrance sales were strongly influenced by slick advertising campaigns and celebrity models. But that is changing. Gen Z is focused on how fragrance make them feel and how they lift their moods. Perfumers are responding by teaching them to close their eyes when they smell a new fragrance and notice what feelings the fragrance brings up. Do they feel uplifted? Do they feel happy?  Taking the time to write down these feelings and observations trains your senses to focus on feeling, not thinking.

The other benefit of these journals is you train your senses to recognize the different notes and ingredients in a fragrance. Do you smell the Italian lemon? How does it smell? What about the rose notes? Is the rose velvety or fruity? You can train yourself to become a scent expert by carefully studying your fragrances. It’s a wonderful gift idea for fragrance enthusiasts of all ages.

What a brilliant idea! Scents bring back so many memories for me, I can remember where I was, who I was with and what we were doing. Recording it would be such a bonus.

This is a great idea. You can also add details as to where you wore a particular scent thus recording a pleasant memory as well. This Baby Boomer must be a Gen Z at heart because I have always chosen and worn a fragrance based in how it makes me feel rather than being influenced by celebrities or fancy ad campaigns. Whether it be uplifting and energizing or comforting, moody and sensual, the nice thing about fragrance is that it is very easy to create a personal collection since there are so many great formulas out there.
