With Father’s Day on the horizon, we thought this was the perfect time to spotlight one of our favourite fragrance gift-with-purchase items of the season. It’s this streamlined Lacoste Fragrance Weekender Bag in the brand’s signature green shade. It’s roomy enough to carry everything you need for a weekend away or for an early morning tennis match. You’ll notice the green and white striped handles are reinforced to give it long wear. And the zipper pull is a silver Lacoste crocodile, the brand’s emblem. You’ll even find a shoulder strap for added comfort.

Lacoste, originally named La Société Chemise Lacoste, was founded by French tennis star René Lacoste in 1933. René was nicknamed ‘The Crocodile’ for his tenacity and fierce play on the tennis courts. (That is why you see the crocodile stitched onto every Lacoste product today.) Remarkably, he won seven Grand Slam Singles titles and was ranked World Number 1 player in 1926 and 1927. Years later, in 1951, the famed tennis player innovated again by patenting the first tubular steel tennis racquet. Previously, all tennis racquets were made of wood.

Throughout his career, René challenged traditions. His flexible, lightweight polo shirt in ‘petit piqué’, was a revolution. It was much more comfortable to wear on court than the traditional shirts imposed on players of the time.

“Inventor! If I had to put a profession on my business card, that is what I would write. I have invented my whole life,” said Lacoste.

The Lacoste brand entered the world of fragrance in 1968 with its first eau de toilette, a collaboration with perfumer Jean Patou. Since then, the company has unveiled an entire collection of scents for him and her that capture the fresh spirit of sport. You’ll notice each stays true to French perfumery artistry using aromatic and woody notes with uplifting citrus.

Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc Eau de Toilette is arguably the most popular Lacoste men’s fragrance globally. It is a fresh woody-aromatic fragrance for him that blends notes of grapefruit, rosemary, and cardamom with ylang-ylang, tuberose, suede, Virginia Cedar, leather and a hint of vetiver. It’s the rosemary that gives this modern classic an uplifting aromatic facet.
