Happy Diwali from Scent Lodge
Diwali is one of our very favourite holidays of the year. It’s the Hindu festival of lights that symbolizes the spiritual ‘victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.’ It’s a joyful and optimistic holiday celebrated with family and friends.
During the festival, families illuminate their homes, temples and workspaces with candles and lanterns. Fireworks are also often set off to mark the celebrations. And you may see floors decorated with rangoli designs and jhalars throughout the house. It is said the five-day long festival originated in the Indian subcontinent and is likely a fusion of harvest festivals in ancient India. It is mentioned in early Sanskrit texts. The 16th-century Portuguese traveller Domingo Paes wrote of his visit to the Hindu Vijayanagara Empire, where Dipavali was celebrated in October with householders illuminating their homes, and their temples, and on the outside of the roofs, an innumerable number of oil lamps…which are kept burning night and day.
What we love about this holiday is fragrance plays a key role for many individuals. Perfume and scent are common gifts presented to loved ones and family. Eau de Parfum, created from the essential oils of flowers and plants, fits in nicely with the idea of a harvest celebration. And scent can sparkle and shine like the most beautiful lamps and candles.
On behalf of the Scent Lodge team, happy Diwali.
