Happy Lunar New Year

We’re celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year this week with fragrances in red bottles that suit the spirit and mood of this special festival. The Lunar New Year officially kicks off on January 29th, the first full moon of the lunar calendar, and is typically a day of family celebrations, fireworks and parties. It is tradition that family members receive red envelopes (lai see) containing small amounts of money to encourage prosperity throughout the coming year. Small gifts in red packaging are also exchanged in many households.

Clive Christian Matsukita

One of our very favourite fragrances for Lunar New Year is Clive Christian’s Matsukita. First crafted in 1892, the enigmatic perfume, with a complexity of 252 ingredients, draws its inspiration from a captivating Japanese princess who once enchanted the Victorian court with her elegance. It is a woody-chypre fragrance for her that blends notes of green bergamot, sparkling pink pepper, and nutmeg with Chinese imperial jasmine and smoky maté tea evoking a sensual aura. A rich base of ambers, whispered musks and woody undertones envelopes you in a warm and enigmatic embrace. The bold red bottle signifies good fortune, luck and prosperity.

Bois 1920 Oro Rosso

Lunar New Year is on January 29th this year so we’re spotlighting our favourite scents for the holiday. The colour red signifies good fortune and luck which is why you see special packaging and bottles in that colour for Lunar New Year. Here’s another fragrance we love to give to friends and family for the occasion. Bois 1920 Oro Rosso is a floral-fruity fragrance for her or him that pairs juicy blood orange with exotic saffron. The perfumer then layers on jasmine, lavender, oak and musk creating a graceful and chic fragrance. You’ll notice how the softness of the jasmine blooms intertwines with the spicy warmth of the saffron. It’s an uplifting and optimistic fragrance – perfect to usher in the coming year

Coach Love

January 29th marks the Lunar Year of the Wood Snake, a rare and significant combination that occurs every 60 years. The snake is known for its wisdom and transformative energy is paired with the wood element that symbolizes growth, stability and creativity. Snakes are also known for their ability to shed their skin, symbolizing the process of letting go of the old and embracing the new. Individuals are encouraged to release their past baggage and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

Here’s one of our favourite Lunar New Year fragrances, an uplifting and optimistic fragrances housed in a red flacon (for good luck).  Coach Love is a modern fruity-floral fragrance for her that pairs juicy wild strawberry with a velvet rose note.

Montblanc Legend Red

Did you know that red is an important colour during Lunar New Year because it symbolizes prosperity and good fortune. In the Chinese culture, red represents fire and energy. It is even thought to ward off evil spirits. That is why almost all Lunar New Year fragrances and gifts feature red packaging and bottles. Montblanc Legend Red is an energizing aromatic-woody scent for him that blends notes of blood orange, sage and mahogany woods. The sage contributes a strongly aromatic character and balances the freshness of the orange and the masculinity of the woods. We love it for Lunar New Year.

The attraction to the bold red flacon is immediate. The fruity-florals are uplifting, the woody-chypre is sensual and warm and the aromatic-woody scents are energizing.
