How long do perfumed bath products last?

When it comes to how long a designer fragrance will last once opened, most perfumers agree that the product will stay in pristine condition for 12 months if you store it in a cool, dark location. After that, the botanical ingredients can slowly start to deteriorate over time. It isn’t something that happens immediately. Over time, you’ll notice your fragrance doesn’t smell exactly the way your remember it. That’s because UV rays and temperature fluctuations can cause the floral ingredients to break down.

But what about your perfumed bath products? How long will they last. We’ve asked several industry experts and wanted to share their responses.

Bath gel: 8 months

A perfumed bath and shower gel is a great way to enjoy your signature scent. These products are scented using the same ingredients in the eau de parfum or eau de toilette – only at a lower concentration. They are ideal for anyone who likes a lighter fragrance. And for summer months when heat and humidity can make stronger versions too overwhelming. A good scented shower gel will typically last 8 months in good condition. After that you might notice the consistency start to change. The formula can start to become watery.

Bath oil: 1 to 2 years

When it comes to longevity, bath oil is one of the longest-lasting products you can buy. The reason being is that these products have a high concentration of oils which have a long lifespan. Just remember to keep the cap securely tightened in between use.

Bath soaps: 1 to 3 years

It may seem odd to but a best before date on milled soap, but the fragrance can slowly disappear over time. If kept dry, soap will last for years. But if you unwrap the bar and place it in your bathroom, the scent will last for a good four months before slowly losing its strength.

Perfumed body lotion: 6 months

If you find that your signature fragrance doesn’t last as long as you’d like, try applying the perfumed body lotion on your skin first. Then spray the fragrance over the body lotion. You’ll find your fragrance will last as much as two hours longer than before. Because a lotion contains emollients and hydrating ingredients, it can break down over time like traditional skincare formulas. You’ll find this product will last in good condition for six months.

Perfumed hair mist: 12 months

One of the hottest trends in perfumery is scented hair mists. Simply spritz your hairbrush with a mist and run it through hair. The fragrance will adhere to the keratin in your hair and last much longer than if you apply on skin. A scented hair mist will also stay true to its original composition as it doesn’t interact with your skin’s unique chemistry. In terms of longevity, a hair mist will last 12 months before slowly losing its strength. Remember to store it in a cool, dry place and it will last much longer.

Life is too short to store your luxury bath products away and keep them for special occasions! Enjoy them and live in them! Now we have another sound reason for doing this. Their life span is short and precious too. Think of them as fresh fruit and enjoy them at their peak of freshness. 💙🧡💛

I never thought about this to be honest. Great information. Basically use the good stuff and don’t save your fragrances, lotions or potions for special days. Treat everyday as it’s your last.
