How to Beach-Proof Your Fragrance
It’s summer vacation season and for many of us, that means spending some time on a beach beside a lake or ocean to relax and recharge. And while that summer sun can feel so good on our skin, it’s not so good for your favourite fragrances. Here are a few tips on how to properly protect your scents during summer holidays.
Store your fragrances in a little insulated lunch box
Here’s a great tip for protecting your favourite fragrance while on vacation. Invest in a little insulated lunch bag – the kind with the padded sides and zipped top. You’ll want to find a little ice pack as well. You can often pick them up at grocery or drugstores in the seasonal section. Leave it in the freezer overnight to firm up. Then, when it is time to head to the beach, pop the ice pack in the insulated bag with your fragrance and your sunscreen. This will help keep the temperature cool and as an added bonus will feel cool on your skin when you spritz. (Avoid using ice that can melt which can make a mess when thawing.)
Keep your perfumes away from direct sunlight
If you want to make your perfumes last longer, keep them out of direct sunlight. That is because UV rays can cause the botanical ingredients to oxidize and spoil faster. So store them in a bag or even in the box they came in. Your scents will stay fresh up to 20% longer.
Opt for smaller travel-sized bottles
Travel-sized scents, typically 10 ml to 15 ml versions, are perfect for summer vacations. We particularly love the rounded Versace Ovetto bottles designed to sit in the palm of your hand. Remember that 1 ml of fragrance = 10 sprays. So a 10 ml spray will give you 100 sprays – enough for a two-week holiday.
Switch to citrus-themed compositions
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy citrus-themed fragrances. Scents with lemon, yuzu, lime, bergamot, grapefruit and mandarin are refreshing and light. Italian nobility particularly enjoyed lemon colognes and bergamot splashes throughout history.

June 15, 2022 at 2:29 pmYears ago I never thought about a fragrance expiring. It was fashionable to display all your fragrance out in the open. Now I know better. I store all my fragrances in their original box, upside down and in my closet. I really like sample size fragrances just for that reason. I had wondered how sprays do you get in a bottle? Your simple math is so easy to remember. Thank you ☺️💖🌸
