How to bottle a sunset
There is nothing more beautiful than watching the setting sun over a desert landscape. The sky appears bigger. The colours more vibrant. And the scent of cactus flowers fills the air. It’s what draws thousands of tourists each year to take road trips through America’s most famous desert landscapes.
American fashion brand Coach has taken inspiration from this miracle of nature to bottles the beauty and spirit of desert sunsets. Master perfumer Nathalie Lorson handpicked notes of pear, bergamot, and jasmine and skillfully blended them with warm tonka bean and vanilla. It’s a warm floral with a sweet base that is comforting and fresh.
“Coach Dreams Sunset is playful, nostalgic and inspired by the spirit of possibility and adventure,” explains Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers, who has created fashion collections inspired by desert adventures. He describes the end of day as “golden hours” when the sun’s rays create a light show of gold, red, pink and orange.
Coach Dreams Sunset Notes:
Top: pear sorbet, bergamot (a cross between a bitter orange and lime)
Heart: jasmine sambac, magnolia
Base: tonka bean (has a dry vanilla/almond aroma), vanilla
The pear note in this fragrance has a chilled, smooth facet that blends beautifully with the bergamot citrus. Bergamot combines the best of lime and bitter orange/lemon aromas. It’s uplifting and optimistic. Jasmine adds a flirty wink and the magnolia is creamy and sensual. The composition is wrapped in comforting vanilla.
Reminiscent of vintage apothecary bottles and inspired by treasures found along the way, the glass flacon is finished with a gold spray cap shaped like a tea rose, an enduring house code. Crafted of ombré glass reflecting the changing skies, the bottle is finished with a refined leather ring at the base of the cap, a nod to Coach’s rich history of leather craftsmanship.
The ad campaign was shot in the desert outside of Los Angeles and follows models and friends Jean Campbell and Binx Walton as they take off on a one-of-a-kind adventure. As the sun sets on the horizon, they bring to life more dreams from their list: ‘paint a masterpiece’, ‘be in a band’, and ‘fall in love’. Created in collaboration with director and photographer Fabien Baron, the campaign celebrates the spirit of optimism, fun and adventure.
