One of the biggest scent trends emerging in 2021 is candy-themed scents. Fragrance houses are infusing new eau de toilettes with sweet, sugary ingredients to create fun, upbeat and happy scents. It is almost an olfactory escape from the stress of the past year that reminds you of happier times. These eau de toilettes differ from traditional gourmand scents as they aren’t built around notes of vanilla, chocolate, caramel or benzoin. No, these are straight-up sugary delights. But with a twist. The new generation of candy-style scents are more sophisticated from their predecessors thanks to the addition of specific floral notes like rose, peach flower and orange flower.
Moschino Toy 2 Bubble Gum Fragrance
Our favourite candy-themed scent of the season is from Italian fashion house Moschino. It’s called Toy 2 Bubble Gum and it truly is a celebration of that wonderful pink chewing gum of our childhoods. It’s a joyful fruity-gourmand scent for her that blends notes of bubble gum accord, candied citrus, juicy peach and Italian lemon essence with a kick of cinnamon and ginger powder. It’s balanced nicely with Bulgarian rose and smooth cedarwood.
Ingredients: bubble gum accord, candied citrus fruits, Italian orange essence, blackcurrant, ginger powder, cinnamon, peach flower, Bulgarian Rose essence, juicy vine peach, cedarwood essence, cocktail of salty musk and lemon essence from Italy.
It’s a timely launch as bubble gum will soon celebrate it’s 100th anniversary.
History of Bubble Gum
In 1928, Walter Diemer, an accountant for the Fleer Chewing Gum Company in Philadelphia, was experimenting with gum recipes. One recipe, based on a formula for a chewing gum called ‘Blibber Blubber’, was found to be less sticky than regular chewing gum because it stretched more easily. The gum was an immediate hit and became known as Double Bubble.
Bubble Gum Flavour
Candy companies mix artificial flavourings called ‘esters’ to create a sweet, candy flavour.
A natural bubble gum flavouring can be produced by combining banana, pineapple, cinnamon, cloves and wintergreen. Some confectionary chemists will add in vanilla, cherry, lemon and orange oil. In taste tests, children preferred strawberry flavoured bubble gum. Perfumers will create the scent of bubble gum in a lab using headspace technology that replicates the scent exactly using synthetic ingredients.
If you are a bubble gum enthusiast, you may want to wear Moschino Bubble Gum while practicing blowing bubbles. In 1996, Susan Montgomery Williams of Fresno, California set the Guinness World Record for the largest bubble ever blown, which was 26 inches in diameter. Jeremy Scott, Creative Director for Moschino pays homage to bubble gum blowing in the ad campaign for the fragrance where the model wears an astronaut suit while blowing bubbles.
You’ll notice the iconic Moschino bear is painted a cheerful bubble gum pink for this fragrance. It’s not the first time Scott has used the colour pink so boldly. He created an entire ready-to-wear collection in Spring 2015 with bright pink dresses and outfits. Barbie would have loved them!
Moschino Toy 2 Bubble Gum is the ideal fragrance to spritz when you need a smile. It immediately improves your mood. Who doesn’t love a little bubble gum?
