Scent Trend: Mint

If you are looking for a refreshing, uplifting and clean scent, look no further than mint. The hardy perennial herb, known as ‘mentha’ in Greek, is a genius of plants in the family Lamiaceae (mint family). Researchers believe there are anywhere from 13 to 24 species that grow in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia. The plant thrives in wet environments with moist soils and can grow as tall as 48 inches. Not surprisingly, the different species of mint have quite different olfactory profiles.

Mint is not only known for its fragrant aroma but its vibrant leaves that are arranged in opposite pair.s The colour ranges from dark green to grey-green, purple to blue and even sometimes pale yellow. Blooms are either white or purple and are produced in false whorls called venticillasters.

Mint Oil: the fragrant aroma of the mint leaf is extracted through steam distillation. The steam vapour causes the essential oil from the plant to be released where it is collected and cooled.
