Time to Chill Your Fragrances

Ask a perfumer what is the best way to store a fragrance to ensure it lasts as long as possible and he or she will likely say to place the bottle in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Follow this direction and your eau de parfum will last in excess of 12 months once opened. But there is another approach that has an added benefit in summer months: store them in your fridge.

There is nothing more cooling and refreshing than spritzing a fragrance that has been chilled. The cold mist on your skin after a shower in the morning can feel refreshing and cooling. Even better, spraying a fragrance on damp skin after a shower or bath can make it last longer as the fragrance adheres better to moisturized skin.

An added benefit of storing a fragrance in a refrigerator is that it keeps the temperature consistent and it keeps the bottle in a dark environment. Perfumers says that temperature swings of a couple of degrees can shorten the lifespan of a fragrance by a couple of months. Did you know that the temperature in your bathroom can rise and fall three degrees because of the steam and heat from a shower or bath? That is why you should never store your eaux de parfum in the bathroom. Pop them in the fridge in summer instead.

This article has great advice to prolong our fragrances. I move my fragrances twice a year. I store them in a storage tote and in the winter bring them to a colder room upstairs and in the summer months I bring the tote to the basement which is cooler. I think an extra fridge would be much easier. Lol.

That is great advice! Especially on a hot day it would feel so nice to have a cool spritz. Mind you my A/C is always set very low husband has to wear a sweater and his slippers. I melt easily lol a wilted Trisha is never good!
