Winter Rose Accords

Winter Rose Accords

When the idea of wearing a rose-themed fragrance is introduced, most people immediately think of summer, when the rosa roaceae bushes are full of vibrant blooms composed of the most delicate petals. But while rose fragrances so smell beautiful in warm weather, they are particularly good in the winter. Here’s why:

Scent molecules shrink in cold temperatures. This is the reason why your favourite perfumes may seem not to last as long in winter months. They might not seem as strong as you remembered when you bought them. It’s because of atmospheric conditions. Perfumers will tell you to add an extra spritz during colder months to give your scents a stronger impact.

Now, rose oil is known for being a strong floral note. It makes an immediate impact in any composition which is why perfumers will use it sparingly. In winter, that strong personality is exactly what you need. You need notes like cedar, sandalwood, jasmine and rose to make a scent last. Damask and Centifolia rose oils particularly shine in winter thanks to the cold air and lower humidity levels. You actually smell the nuances and character of each. Damask often has a fruity facet while Centifolia is more velvety and smooth.

The second reason to look for rose in your winter fragrance wardrobe is its ability to bring notes together into a harmonious aroma. Rose is truly a fascinating ingredient as it can cause contrasting and conflicting notes to work together seamlessly. One of the most interesting aspects of perfume chemistry that few consumers know is how difficult it is to select 100 ingredients that will work together creating a harmonious scent. Ingredient clash is very common and takes a skilled hand to manage. It’s like a cast of actors in a stage production where every single person wants to be the star! Ingredients behave that way.

Whichever fragrances you choose to wear this winter season, check to see if there is rose in it. You’ll be very happy you did. Winter rose accords are wonderful.
