If you love the juicy, sweet aroma and taste of wild strawberries in late June, you are going to love the new fragrances coming throughout 2024. We’ve noticed that perfumers have rekindled a passion for the tiny red fruit for a number of women’s eau de parfum compositions. In many cases, it replaces citrus notes such as lemon and mandarin.

So, what does wild strawberry smell like? The summer berry has a lush, juicy, fruity-green aroma that is brisk, uplifting with both sweet and tart facets. The best quality strawberries are not overpoweringly ‘jammy’ but more fresh and clean. Perfumers like this note as it is complex in nature offering textures and nuances to a fragrance. It also blends nicely with white flowers and sandalwood.

In 2020, star perfumer Marie Salamagne used wild strawberry in Kate Spade New York Eau de Parfum. “My objective was to capture the unique scent of this lush and extremely elegant red fruit to feature joyful femininity, sublimated by gorgeous rose essence, the queen of flowers,” she says of the composition. She describes strawberry as having a colourful and carefree nature in scents.

Fellow American fashion brand Coach has incorporated wild strawberry in its upcoming Coach Love fragrance. It describes the note as “thrillingly delicious” and it blended with red velvet rose and vibrant cedarwood. Perfumer Antoine Maisondieu balances the notes perfectly creating a modern fruity-floral scent that is ideal for day. (It launches late March in Canada)

Expect to smell more wild strawberry notes in fragrances debuting in the coming months and throughout the year. It is definitely a trending note.
