Bergamot
Bergamot
Trending fragrance note: bergamot
Category: citrus
Olfactory description: With a more suave note than lemon, bergamot is a fresh, floral, soft and sparkling citrus scent with a hint of Earl Grey tea. It is less simplistic and identifiable than regular lemon.
Mood: uplifting and energetic
Looks like: a large orange or lemon. It is in fact, a grafted fruit tree that combines lemon, lime and bitter orange. The plant produces an inedible fruit with a wonderful citrus scent.
Fragrant rind: Perfumers use the fruit zest & rind in their fragrance blends.
Extraction method: cold expression of the fruit rind. The oil of the rind is forced under high mechanical pressure to produce a good quality essential oil.
Placement: top note. It is used in both men’s and women’s fragrances in Chypre & Oriental scents.
Locale: Italy (Calabria & Sicily), South Africa’s Ivory Coast, Guinea, & Brazil
History: In tropical Asia and Morocco, Bergamot’s zest was used for its healing properties. Hippocrates and the world’s first doctors used the small fruit as a miraculous remedy – as an antiseptic, antiviral, & antidepressant. Some say that Christopher Columbus rediscovered bergamot on a visit to the Canary Islands.
Bergamot-themed scents: Coach Floral, Montblanc Legend eau de toilette, Bvlgari Omnia Coral, Oscar by Oscar de la Renta, Versace Eros Pour Femme, Versace Dylan Blue, Bvlgari Pour Homme, Jimmy Choo L’Eau, Atkinsons Oud Save The Queen, Moschino Toy Boy,
Bergamot remains one of the most beloved fragrance ingredients. It has a sophisticated character that can be used in hundreds of ways. And best of all, it is bright and uplifting.

July 3, 2021 at 8:28 amI had absolutely no idea bergamot was a citrus fruit. I thought the bergamot in Earl Grey tea was from the garden flower!
